This page shows the blog pages. For most trips, there is one blog per day. Clicking on the photo for a day will take you to a slider: a photo carousel that shows the photos large. Clicking on the title will take you to another page with more information about the photos.

TitleDay 1: Laguna de la Tancada, Amposta
We start our journey in the Ebro Delta. The first hotel is the Delta Hotel which is in the middle of the fertile Ebro Delta. In the delta there are many nature reserves, but there is also a lot of agricultural land. To a certain extent the birds don't care, there are herons everywhere.

TitleDay 2: unknown
On the second day we go to the north coast of the delta in search of gulls, terns and waders. In addition to flamingos we see the slender-billed gull, a species that we do not see in the Netherlands. Our walk along the Ebro yields a nesting peacock tit, but the path to get there was not really suitable for people with a walking stick. The rest of the day we see what we can find at the wet fields, puddles and salt marshes.

TitleDay 3: Horta de Sant Joan, Tarragona
Bird watching is much harder here than on the coast. The Merlin app hears a lot of birds, and so does our guide, but bird watching by eye is not so easy. So today there are also many photos of insects and plants. They are more approachable. Therefore we have today no birds.

TitleDay 4: Pina de Ebro, Zaragoza
The steppe is quite flat and dry. We look for large birds such as bustards and small birds such as larks. We don't get many birds close to the lens, so we also take photos of plants and insects. All in all, this gives you a broader view of the area.

TitleDay 5: Binaced, Valfarta
We are looking for wheatears and larks in a similar area. The program includes the lesser kestrel, a young eagle owl and crested cuckoos, which we also find. The other birds are again at a great distance. The birdwatchers then count an extra species each time. I am only writing this blog in December and in the meantime I know that this is a bird trip, photo bird trips are different. You come home with more photos, partly taken at feeders. The vultures later this week, for example, know that they can occasionally get a lot of meat. And then they are happy to be photographed. But otherwise this trip is pure nature: you have to be lucky and be quick for a photo.

TitleDay 6: Alquézar
This day is rainy. Normally this trip is in sunny weather they say, but this year it is chilly and today also wet. We stay in the tourist town of Alquézar, which is also nice in the rain.

TitleDay 7: Bierge and Casbas de Huesca
The vulture show was impressive. The caretaker comes with a wheelbarrow full of meat to feed the vultures. In the past, vultures ate dead animals, but farmers now have to clean up the carcasses. As a result, the vulture population decreased, which they now solve by feeding the vultures. And as a tourist you can help keep the costs down a bit. The main prize is a bearded vulture. There vultures mainly want the bones to break them apart for the marrow. A young bearded vulture did indeed come to have a look.

Later in the day, the group goes for a mountain trail, but I don't dare. My app does hear nice birds, but photographing them is a different story. So again some insects and plants.

TitleDay 8: Bárcabo and Río Ara - N2000
We continue upwards to find new species at altitude. Unfortunately, the weather is not much better than the day before yesterday, so we see little of interest. The birdwatchers hear and see more than I do, but the rain unfortunately spoils the fun.

TitleDay 9: Río Ara - N2000
We can't go to the really high area with jeeps because there is still too much snow. Instead, we go by bus to an "alpine meadow" where we see marmots. The marmots are much bigger than the ones you buy for children. Marmots don't keep much distance: they are easy to photograph. We also see some smaller birds: the dipper in a river, black tits and firecrests. And again more rain.

TitleDay 10: El Grado, Huesca
It's a long drive from the mountains to Barcelona, in practice we can only stop to wash the cars and take some pictures of weeds.
